Boniface Kimeu

Special Olympics Kenya

Boniface Kimeu is an Athlete Leader and Chairperson of the Athlete Input Council for Special Olympics Kenya. He is also a member of the Africa Regional Athlete Input Council (RAIC) and a member of the Global Athlete Leadership Council (GALC) representing the Africa region.

After joining Special Olympics in 2010, Boniface discovered his talent in football (soccer). In 2015, he had a chance to represent Kenya in the 14th Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles. His team won a gold medal. He also competed in Special Olympics World Games, in Abu Dhabi in 2019 and Special Olympics Pan African Games in Egypt in 2020.

Boniface became a Special Olympics Health Messenger in 2018. Since then, he has been sharing health lessons with the athletes and the community in his village, encouraging them to practice simple healthy habits like handwashing with soap and clean water, brushing their teeth, drinking plenty of water, eating healthy, and participating in physical activities.

Being part of Special Olympics gave Boniface the courage and determination to start a business in his home county out of which he supports his family, and offers employment to young people.

Boniface is passionate about being a football player and a Health Messenger through which he hopes to impact young people to play sports and to teach them how to live healthy lifestyles.

“I look forward to learning new experiences, sharing ideas, and making new friends”-Boniface.
