Candy Wong

2023 Global Athlete Congress Participant

Candy Wong is an athlete from Special Olympics Hong Kong in the East Asia Region. Candy participates in speed skating. She has been involved in Special Olympics since 2009.

Candy’s favorite part about Special Olympics is the many valuable opportunities to challenge herself.

Candy is excited for the congress in Berlin. She is looking forward to meeting new friends and broadening her horizons.

Candy is employed as a waitress in a restaurant. When Candy isn’t working or competing, she enjoys cooking. Outside of Special Olympics, Candy is the chairperson of the alumni association executive committee meeting of Shatin Public School.

Candy says that being an athlete leader means that she can be a voice for other Special Olympics athletes. As an athlete leader she can invite more people without intellectual disabilities to join Special Olympics as unified partners.

Project Description

Candy’s grant plan is to hold a unified camp for athlete leaders and youth leaders without intellectual disabilities. The content of the camp will include sports, team building activities, and sessions about unified leadership education. Trough the joint efforts of two athlete leaders, this project will allow athlete leaders to take meaningful leadership roles in planning and executing the camp. The youth leaders and camp participants without intellectual disabilities will increase their understanding of inclusion and the leadership potential people with intellectual disabilities have. A final evaluation will help determine if the program met its objectives.
