Kellie Simmons

2023 Global Athlete Congress Participant

Kellie Simmons is an athlete from Special Olympics Trinidad and Tobago in the North America Region. Kellie participates in equestrian. She has been involved in Special Olympics since 2014.

Kellie’s favorite part about Special Olympics is meeting other athletes.

Kellie is excited for the congress in Berlin. She is looking forward to telling people about her project and what happened.

Kellie is employed as a Customer Service Representative with Scotia Bank Ltd. When Kellie isn’t working or competing, she enjoys listening to soca/calypso and jazz music, cooking macaroni pie, potato salad, and fresh salad. Kellie is also a member of Invaders Junior Steel Orchestra where she plays tenor pan. She is also a U-Reporter for UNICEF.

Kellie says that being an athlete leader means that she can give hope to others with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, she can feel good about herself, and she can help others to also do well.

Project Description

Kellie’s grant plan is to sensitize and bring awareness to organizations and educational institutions on the capabilities of people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). She plans to do this by building confidence in people with IDD so that they will take on leadership roles in the workplace. Kellie will collect data and statistics on the state of inclusion in the workplace.
