Michaela Duchova

Michaela Duchova

Special Olympics Slovakia

Michaela started swimming in 2015. A year later, she took part in swimming competitions in Trenčín, west of Slovakia. Since then, she participated in several local competitions and won 45 medals.

Michaela learned to make ceramics at primary school in Košice. She loved music, gymnastics, and dance. She also competed in arts and poetry. After school, Michaela joined the Artest Social Services Home (ASSH) where she regularly meets with her peers to make embroidery and different handcrafted products. She is in charge of attendance at the ASSH.

Michaela became a Health Messenger because she is a leader and she likes to learn new things. She is happy that she can teach her friends at Special Olympics Slovakia about living a healthy life. She advises them to avoid sweets, do physical activities, and stay hydrated. She would like to educate health professionals about communicating with people with intellectual disabilities (ID). She thinks education will bring an understanding and joy to working with people with ID.

Michaela lives with her parents and her brother Lukáš. When she is not working or training, she likes to read, draw, paint, or listen to music. She enjoys car trips to the countryside and attending concerts. She is proud of herself because of what she can do for others.
