Peter Ispold

Special Olympics Slovakia

From a very young age, Peter was sensitive to the fact that he was different. After Primary School he obtained an apprenticeship certificate as a gardener. Despite discouragement from his parents, Peter enrolled to train as a caregiver.

He worked at a nursing home, taking care of the elderly. He received a lot of love from them every day.

Post training, Peter accepted a temporary job at the Social Services Home in Bratislava to assist in the rehabilitation services for children with severe disabilities. The role inspired him to enroll in courses to improve his massaging technique skills.

Peter built a wellness facility where he offers massage services. He dreams of adding an ID- friendly outdoor fitness center, with equipment suitable for young children and adults next to his facility. He hopes this could be a place where his friends from Special Olympics Slovakia would feel welcome to visit for exercising and relaxing.

Peter says sports taught him to be responsible, tenacious, goal-oriented, and self-disciplined. His sporting achievements include two gold medals in swimming from Special Olympics Sommerspiele Oberösterrich in Brücken Bauen (2018), silver and bronze medals in swimming from Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi in 2019, and a gold medal from Special Olympics World Championship Dance Sport in Graz, Austria in 2021.

Peter became a Health Messenger so that he can share his passion with others. He wants to promote inclusive societies, where people with and without ID can talk, play sports, laugh, and just live together.
